Self-Reflection Questions

Use these prompts to explore your own story and experiences. 

  1. How do I view people with the same ethnic or racial background as me? What feelings or thoughts arise for me when I reflect on this question?

  2. What relationships have I had with other Asian Americans? How have those relationships made me feel? What have I learned from those relationships?

  3. What opportunities have I had to meaningfully interact with other racially minoritized people? How did those interactions go? What did I learn from those experiences?

  4. How frequently am I in spaces with people who share the same identities as me? Why might that be? 

  5. What have been significant experiences in my life that have shaped how I view my racial or ethnic identity? Why were these significant? How did these experiences shape me? What healing might I need to do around these experiences?

  6. Who is represented in the media that I consume? How can I diversify the perspectives of accounts and media that I follow? Consider social media, television, movies, music, art, and news.

  7. What is something that challenges, puzzles, or confuses me about race and racism? 

  8. What is one way that I am willing to continue learning about race and my relationship to racism?

  9. How have I processed my racial experiences in the past? What would be helpful to this process now? Who might be able to help me process these experiences?

  10. When it comes to telling my story, how do I prefer to express myself? Who do I need or want to share my experiences with?
